Bitter Sweetheart No. 04 reimagines the familiar conversation heart through a sharper, more irreverent lens. Nine hand-cast resin hearts are arranged across a layered white canvas, pairing nostalgic candy colors with decidedly unsweet sentiments.
Each heart is individually cast, tinted and finished by hand. The lettering is intentionally imperfect and subtly off-center, echoing the irregular character of traditional conversation hearts.
The canvas is upcycled and painted over previous artwork, allowing subtle texture from its earlier life to remain part of the finished piece. Because each work is created and assembled by hand, slight variations in color, placement, lettering and surface are part of the work and make each piece unique.
